01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At sunday zoo, a coffee stand in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, choosing the beans is part of the experience. One customer who sought advice before ordering a Costa Rican pour-over described it as well balanced, with a mellow feel and a clean, citrus-like finish. The beans are ground on the spot and the coffee is made by hand, so there is a little time to enjoy the anticipation. Whether you prefer a clean-tasting cup or something with more body, you can share your preferences as you choose.
There are also accounts of a customer who chose Vietnamese beans for their love of dark roasts, and another who tried “dark demi”, a blend of lightly roasted Mandheling, Vietnamese and El Salvadorian beans. The latter was described as full-bodied yet mellow, with a pleasingly smooth texture. Beans are available to buy as well; a review notes that they could be purchased in quantities starting at 100g. For something sweet, there is affogato served with freshly brewed coffee poured over it. Whether you stop for a drink or add dessert is up to your mood.
You can eat in or take your order to go. The shop is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 17, so check the opening days if you are planning to drop by during a weekend walk.
